About this Event

Dominated by fossil fuel-powered vehicles, the Philippines’ transport sector is currently the nation’s second highest contributor to its greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 31.6 per cent of total emissions in 2016.

The sector is also responsible for 76 per cent of total particulate matter (PM10) pollution. In 2017, the country’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced it considered transport-related air pollution the biggest environmental health threat facing the nation.

Covid-19 travel restrictions have resulted in cleaner air, bluer skies, and lesser traffic congestion for the country of 108 million people. But as the country drives into a new pandemic reality, the Philippines could have more people opting to travel by private cars instead of by public transportation due to wariness of virus transmission.

What does the future of mobility hold for the Philippines? Will the pandemic present an opportunity to accelerate EV uptake in the country? What can various stakeholders – industry, government, and consumers – do to spark a more vibrant EV market?

Come 26th March 2021, the British Embassy Manila in partnership with Eco-Business will jointly host a virtual dialogue on accelerating the business case of EV in the Philippines.

The dialogue aims to bring the country’s key EV stakeholders in a knowledge sharing actionable conversation with UK EV business and finance actors on the challenges and opportunities in the country’s EV market.
