Karen Ferguson

Head of Climate, Science and Tech, British Embassy Manila

Karen Ferguson has been a civil servant in the UK Government for 15 years and currently serves as Head of Climate, Science and Technology at British Embassy Manila. She was previously a Senior Programme Manager in British High Commission Kigali, Rwanda and focused on a range of human development issues including social protection, health, and education. As Chief of Staff, she helped deliver the UK’s first Africa Investment Summit, where she led and managed the Technology and Innovation Hub and she also served as Head of the Political Team for the UK’s former Department for International Development in UK Embassy Kabul in Afghanistan.

Prior to Ms Ferguson’s government service, she was an advisor for the British Medical Association, advising on employment law and ethics, as well as doing extensive volunteer work across the UK and Africa which in 2002 earned her the Young Quality Scot of the Year Award.

Ms. Ferguson earned her Master's degree in Climate Change Science and Management from University of London, Birkbeck. She also holds a Bachelor degree in English Literature and Politics from the University of Stirling.
