Jose Luis is currently in charge of developing blended finance solutions for bankable high-impact Marine Protected Areas projects in Asia Pacific that aim to enhance coral reef resilience and the livelihoods of coastal communities. Before joining Blue finance, driven by his passion for the ocean, he worked as ecotourism consultant (East Indonesia focus) for IDH – the Sustainable Trade- and as advisor (pro bono) for different NGOs including Conservation International and Raja Ampat Dive Resort Association.
Previous to pursuing a career in sustainability and ecotourism, he worked for 19 years in the financial industry (including 13 years at Citibank) in Hong Kong, New York, and Mexico City, in different roles in finance, sales, strategy, and business development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from ITAM (Mexico), a master’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University, a Certification as an expert in Sustainable Finance from Frankfurt School, and a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
