About this Event

The past two years have shed light on the growing impacts of climate change and rising inequality affecting populations across the world amidst the shock of Covid-19. As the world transitions to living with a virus that has made an indelible mark on society, Mars Wrigley’s sustainability mandate as a global leader in the treats and snacks industry continues to expand.

According to a 2021 report from The Economist Intelligence Unit commissioned by WWF, the demand for responsible products from brands is surging - with online searches for sustainable goods rising 71 per cent globally over the past five years.

The treating and snacking industry is responsible for emitting 2.1 million tons of greenhouse gases annually. Furthermore, data from the United Nations Environment Programme estimates that 300 million tons of plastic packaging is used globally every year, making it critical for the industry to take concrete actions to address its environmental footprint.

One million people are currently part of Mars Wrigley’s value chain.  Given its scale and size, Mars Wrigley therefore plays a key role in ensuring it secures livelihoods and improves the lives of farmers and workers throughout its value chain, reduces the environmental impact of its direct operations and ensure that its packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

Taking into mind Mars Wrigley’s purpose — that is, creating better moments and more smiles for people and the planet, how is Mars Wrigley responding to these emerging trends? What are the challenges it faces in achieving higher standards of sustainability in their supply chain?  How can its stakeholders play a role in its value chain? How will the brands of Mars Wrigley pivot towards sustainability?

The world Mars Wrigley wants is one where the planet is healthy, everyone is thriving, and the society is inclusive. This is why on 28 April, Mars Wrigley and Eco-Business will convene the leading thinkers and players in the sustainable sourcing, inclusive business models, packaging and sustainable brands space for the Mars Wrigley Sustainability Forum, to create a better tomorrow for future generations.
